Iconic designers at Redbrick: Verner Panton

Celebrating 100 years

since the birth of Verner Panton.

One of the leading designers of the post-war period, Danish-born Verner Panton helped shape the future of furniture design.

In recognition of his remarkable enduring legacy, we are highlighting a selection of our favourite designs that exemplify that capture his innovative vision and enduring significance.

Panton Chair (1967) Vitra at Heal’s

The Panton Chair is a design icon found in homes, museums and restaurants across the world. Also known as the S Chair thanks to its cantilevered silhouette, Verner Panton’s eponymously named chair revolutionised modern furniture production.

Flowerpot VP9 Portable & Pendant (1968) &Tradition at Heal’s

First designed in 1968, Verner Panton’s Flowerpot lamp is an enduring classic: a playful yet minimal product that remains among the most iconic works of postwar Danish design and originates from the desire to craft pieces that trigger feelings rather than serve as mere functional objects. The portable VP9 comes equipped with a USB charging cable, bringing a cosy atmosphere to both indoor and outdoor settings.
